Telos News» Saturday, December 08, 2012TELOS PUBLISHING NEWSLETTER - 8 December 2012 Welcome to another newsletter from Telos Publishing, and a Merry Christmas to all of you at home. We are entering the final week of us being able to despatch books in time for Christmas. The last date for us to receive orders and guarantee that they will be posted at least before Christmas is SUNDAY 16 DECEMBER. We can't guarantee that they will arrive before the Holiday, but anything ordered up to that date will (subject to us still having copies) be posted on the Monday. As usual we have had some new titles come into stock, and some others have sold out ... so here's the details: NEW ARRIVALS Whostrology: A Time Traveller's Almanac by Michael M Gilroy-Sinclair Illustrated by Deborah Taylor Whostrology: an astrological system based upon the travels of a certain Time Lord. The mythic qualities of his tales of adventure form the basis for this book of daily readings that can help you shape your life and live in a truly Whovian way. It has been said that the Doctor was born under the sign of the crossed computers. This could mean one of two things. It could be nothing more than a flippant remark to a passing local; or it could be a reference to the stars as seen from the Doctor’s home world. As any visible constellations are an arbitrary set of images fully dependant on the observer’s location in time and space as well as their cultural heritage, it can also be argued that some people have nothing better to do than make things up. Whostrology is a book of daily readings, zodiac signs and explanations, and other Who-based astrological elements, designed to allow every Who fan to lead a life of peace and ordered calm. This is an ideal Christmas book, quirky and fun, and perfectly illustrated by Deborah Taylor. WE NOW HAVE A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF COPIES PERSONALLY SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. There's a facebook page for the book here: https://www.facebook.com/#!/Whostrology Copies can be ordered from Telos here: http://www.telos.me.uk/category.php?id=6#133 NOW SOLD OUT The following titles and editions have now unfortunately sold out. There are no current plans to reprint them: THE BARRY NEWBERY SIGNATURE COLLECTION hardback BEAUTIFUL MONSTERS THE TARGET BOOK TORMENT (Hank Janson) COMING SOON Available now to pre-order on the Telos site are the following titles. Please note that payment is taken at the time of ordering, but that if the prices subsequently rise, then you will not be asked for more money. If the price of the final book is less than you paid, you will be offered a refund. Wiped! Doctor Who's Missing Episodes: Second Edition by Richard Molesworth PUBLISHED: end February 2013 In the 1960s, the BBC screened 253 episodes of its cult science fiction show Doctor Who, starring William Hartnell and then Patrick Troughton as the time travelling Doctor. Yet by 1975, the Corporation had wiped the master tapes of every single one of these episodes. Yet by 1975, the Corporation had wiped the master tapes of every single one of these episodes. Of the 124 Doctor Who episodes starring Jon Pertwee shown between 1970 and 1974, the BBC destroyed over half of the original transmission tapes within two years of their original broadcast. In the years that followed, the BBC, along with dedicated fans of the series, began the arduous task of trying to track down copies of as many missing Doctor Who episodes as possible. The search covered BBC sales vaults, foreign television stations, overseas archives, and numerous networks of private film collectors, until the tally of missing programmes was reduced to just 106 episodes. For the first time, this book looks in detail at how the episodes came to be missing in the first place, and examines how material subsequently came to be returned to the BBC. Along the way, those people involved in the recovery of lost slices of Doctor Who's past tell their stories in candid detail, many for the very first time. This second edition updates the story with details of the recent episode discoveries from 'Galaxy 4' and 'The Underwater Menace' as well as general updates, corrections and revisions throughout. No more rumours, no more misinformation, no more fan gossip. The truth about Doctor Who's missing episodes can now be told in full! 'A labour of love that’s clearly involved an immense amount of painstaking research' SFX 'This is a cracker of a book that lays to rest many myths (and confirms many more).' Total SciFi Online 'Exhaustively researched and fascinating' SciFi Online 'If you want to know the full story behind the lost Doctor Who stories and how they were got back then this is the authoritative book to own and should be on your reading list. A brilliant study.' SF Crowsnest 500pp. A5 format book. ISBN 978-1-84583-080-9 (pb) £15.99 ISBN 978-1-84583-081-6 (hb) £30.00 (Please note that the hardback will only be published if there is sufficient demand) For ordering details: http://www.telos.me.uk/category.php?id=6#141 River's Run: The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to Doctor Who 2011 by Stephen James Walker PUBLISHED: end April 2013 River's Run is the comprehensive guide to Series Six of Doctor Who - the second to feature Matt Smith as the eleventh Doctor, with his companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill). The book also details all other significant events that occurred in the Doctor Who world during 2011, presenting all the facts and figures, behind-the-scenes notes, press reaction and detailed and insightful analysis. River's Run is an essential read for all fans of the show, and continues Telos's critically-acclaimed, unrivalled coverage of Doctor Who. 300pp approx. A5 format book. On its first publication in 2002, The Television Companion was hailed as possibly the best guide ever to the BBC's cult science fiction show Doctor Who. Now Telos re-issues their own edition of the book in a revised and updated version spanning two volumes, which remains the definitive guide to the television worlds and adventures of the Doctor and his companions. Every story from 1963 to 1996 is covered in depth in all aspects of production, including plot details, cast and crew lists, episode endings, transmission dates, memorable quotes and popular myths. In addition there is a comprehensive analysis of every adventure, utilising reviews both contemporary and retrospective from a wide variety of sources. This is the essential companion for every trip you will ever take into the TV universe of classic Doctor Who. 'The bible ...' SFX Magazine 'Another superior effort from what I consider to be the finest Doctor Who historians around. It is quite a hefty and involved read, and contains (almost) everything you'd want to know about the best SF Tv series ever.' Reviewer on Amazon.co.uk. 'If you're looking for a Doctor Who episode guide, then you can stop looking as this is by far the best book you can buy about the television series.' Sean Brady on Amazon.co.uk 'What is most memorable about The Television Companion is the fact that every story is given a balanced analysis - it's not decreed that 'Timelash' is bad, for example, rather the authors draw upon a wide variety of opposing reviews spanning the years to present a genuinely interesting study of every story - which is altogether far more interesting than cut-and-dried opinions. The Television Companion is indispensable to all fans of the television series, especially because of the detail in which the Hartnell and Troughton stories are studied. The emphasis is no more in-depth than any other era of the show, but seeing as many of their stories no longer exist, it's highly rewarding and an admirable asset to a potentially video-biased read.' Brad Schmidt in TSV (#56, October 1998) VOLUME ONE (Doctors 1-3): 400pp approx A5 paperback. ISBN 978-1-84583-076-2. £15.99 VOLUME TWO (Doctors 4-8): 400pp approx A5 paperback. Finally, a note of thanks to those people who help keep Telos running smoothly through the year, who work away behind the scenes, keeping the orders flowing, the shops supplied, the website updated, and handling all that annoying admin stuff which is essential to keeping us happy and efficient: Debbie Bennett (Web Orders); Anthony Forth (Webmaster); Sam Stone (despatch and invoicing); Arnold T Blumberg (Design and Layout); Iain Robertson (Cover Supremo); Paul Smith (Design and Layout); Sharon Williams and Bob Loader from Berforts (Printing Maestros) ... and of course to all our authors, helpers, proof readers, cover and internal artists and everyone else who has contributed to our books over the year. THANK YOU to all. Until next time, have a very happy Christmas, and a peaceful and prosperous new year, David, Steve and the Telos Team. Posted by David @ 3:44 pm » Thursday, December 06, 2012
Here at Telos Towers we're (mostly) human like the rest of you, and we're looking at availability for processing and sending orders as we get closer to Christmas.
It looks like the last date for us to receive orders and guarantee that they will be posted at least before Christmas is SUNDAY 16 DECEMBER. We can't guarantee that they will arrive before the Holiday, but anything ordered up to that date will (subject to us still having copies) be posted on the Monday. A couple of notes here: we are down to the final hardback copy of THE BARRY NEWBERY SIGNATURE COLLECTION, and the final couple of hardback copies of CRACKS IN TIME. Once they are gone, they are gone. We are also *very* low on stocks of WHOSTROLOGY and we won't get a reprint in until 2013 now. So again, if these titles are on your Christmas Lists, then get in early or you may miss out.
