Book arrivals

We have now taken delivery of the first of our Guides to the Eurovision Song Contest. Copies of Songs For Europe were despatched yesterday (Thursday 28th June) to everyone who preordered the book.

We're currently expecting copies of By Your Command, the guide to Battlestar Galactica, to arrive next week.

Response to the announcement of the Doctor Who Comic Companion Guide has been nothing short of phenomenal, and due to popular demand, we're currently looking into making a hardback edition of the book available. As soon as we have the price and details confirmed, then we'll add it to the Telos site, along with an 'Upgrade' option, so that if you have ordered the paperback already, and wish to upgrade to the hardback, you can do so.

Zombies At Tiffany's Competition

To celebrate the publication of a new Steampunk/Zombie novella by the inestimable Ms Sam Stone called ZOMBIES AT TIFFANY'S (press release can be found here: http://telospublishing.blogspot.co.uk/), we here at Telos Towers thought it would be fun to run a competition for all interested parties.

The winner will receive the dubious honour of being brutally slain and eaten by Zombies in the novella ... not something that happens every day, I grant you, but in Ms Stone's world of Victorian gadgets, invention, and attacking zombie hoardes, it's a fairly commonplace happening.

To enter, we simply want you to name the author of the novella BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S, upon which Ms Stone's newly formed fiction is very loosely inspired.

Please send entries to Telos Publishing at david@telos.co.uk to arrive before the end of JULY 2012. Please put ZOMBIE COMPETITION as the subject line. We will then put all the winners in a hat (probably a bowler, or perhaps a Fez), and select the lucky victim winner. They will receive the aforementioned accolade of being fictionally slaughtered, and also a signed copy of the finished book when it is published in time for The Asylum 2012 in Lincoln, at which event it is being officially launched.

The decision of Telos Publishing in the final result is final. To find out more about Telos Publishing, please visit www.telos.co.uk.

Zombie deal with Telos for Sam Stone

Stephen James Walker, Editorial Director of Telos Publishing in London, has acquired world rights in a new zombie novella by Sam Stone. The novella, entitled Zombies at Tiffany’s, will be published in September 2012.

Sam is the award-winning author of four vampire novels collectively called ‘The Vampire Gene’ published successfully by The House of Murky Depths. A fifth title in her series, Silent Sand, is due to be published in the autumn. She said, of this deal:

“It’s great to be back working with Telos again after the superb job they did with my horror collection Zombies in New York and Other Bloody Jottings last year. The new novella is riffing on the famous Audrey Hepburn/Blake Edwards film and the novella by Truman Capote, but it’s not the same as either. I enjoy playing with the genres, and this time we have a steampunk Victorian adventure. With zombies. In the famous Tiffany’s store in New York. It’s a lot of fun, and I even have a Jewish zombie wandering around who can only eat Kosher brains – that’s a nod to the character of Shagal the Inn Keeper, brilliantly played by Alfie Bass in the Polanski film The Fearless Vampire Killers.”

Sam Stone’s first novel, Killing Kiss, won the silver award for Best Horror Novel in ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year competition, and her subsequent novels and short stories have gained her much acclaim, including winning the British Fantasy Award. She holds an MA in Creative Writing and is a noted public speaker and lecturer. Sam’s website is at www.sam-stone.com, and Telos Publishing is at www.telos.co.uk.

TELOS PUBLISHING NEWSLETTER - 4 June 2012

Welcome to another newsletter from Telos Publishing. After a run of good weather, it's a shame that the rains seem to have come in for this extended Bank Holiday Weekend ... maybe the weather will improve though, and if you have any parties organised to celebrate the Jubilee, then we hope you have an amazing time!

There's a couple of items to mention this time around.

CRACKS IN TIME: THE UNOFFICIAL AND UNAUTHORISED GUIDE TO DOCTOR WHO 2010
By STEPHEN JAMES WALKER

Our printers have had some challenges in recent weeks with broken parts and lack of paper stock ... this has resulted in the copies of Telos' new guide to Series 5 of Doctor Who (the first Matt Smith season) running late in getting to our distributors (and thus to Amazon, Book Depository and other stores both bricks and mortar and virtual). We have been promised copies week commencing 11th June now, and we apologise to anyone who ordered via those routes for the delay.

We do have paperback copies of the book available direct from Telos, however, and we also have copies of the gorgeous Hardback edition in stock now. This is limited to 100 copies only, and they are selling fast, so if you want to get your hands on a copy, then please order soon. As always, we will do our best to match a previous limited edition number for customers, but this only applies for sure if you pre-order.

The two events that author Stephen James Walker attended (at Peterborough and at London's Xcel centre) were great fun, and we hope that everyone who attended had as good a time as we did.

OTHER NEWS

The first of our new series of guides to the Eurovision Song Contest, covering the 1950s and the 1960s, has been delayed slightly, and we're now expecting copies by the end of June. Author Gordon Roxburgh has done an incredible job chronicling the early days of the contest, and we hope that the book will be well received by everyone.

We are just putting the final touches to the book, which will include an 8 page full colour section of rare single covers, songsheets and other curios, and as soon as we get copies in stock, we'll be sending them out to everyone who has preordered.

Our guide to the classic series of Battlestar Galactica and Galactica 1980 is on track for the end of this month release. The authors are working their way through the proofs at present and as soon as we get them back, then it will be off to print. With an introduction from Richard Hatch, who played Apollo in the original series, By Your Command is a superb and detailed look at the series, from the same authors of Telos' acclaimed guides to Blake's 7 (Liberation) and The Prisoner (Fall Out): Alan Stevens and Fiona Moore.

Next time we should have news of a few more titles for the latter part of this year, plus maybe some news of what Telos has in store for 2013 ...
